Structure Panel

Structure

Description

This view displays a tree-like structure of the prototype items (forms, menu bar and menus, toolbar and buttons, borders, events, controls and addons).

Each tree item displays an icon and a text (id, title, name or text). In the example, the frame has a frame icon () and the title value Prototype Title is displayed on the right. But for the menu bar, we have the menu bar icon () and the name value Menu Bar1 on the right. The id is generated by Designer and is unique within the prototype.

The selection in the Structure view and in the Composer is synchronized both ways. There is also synchronization with the Palette view, Properties view, Documentation view and Feedback view. All these views display information and options relevant to the selected item in the tree.

Navigation

You can select any item in the tree with the mouse. Once an item is selected in the tree, you can navigate within the tree with the up and down arrow keys to go to the next item up or down and with the left and right arrow keys to enter or exit a branch in the tree.

Editing an item

A tree item text can be an id, a name, a title or a text. (Prototype and Forms tree items cannot be edited)

If the text is an id, it is generated dynamically by Designer and is non-editable. If the text is a name, this name can be edited in Properties. Only when the item text is a title attribute or a text attribute can it be edited in-place.

Select the tree item in Structure. In this example, we select the frame. 'Prototype Title' is the title text of frame so it can be edited.

Choose one of the following options
  • from the Edit menu, select " Edit"
  • from the context menu, select " Edit"
  • on the toolbar, select the icon
  • with the keyboard, use the shortcut keys Ctrl+E
  • with the keyboard, press the spacebar
  • double-click with the mouse
Start in-place editing

Press the Enter key

Note: When the title or text is edited within the composer or in the Properties docking panel, it is automatically updated in the tree.
